Miami-based DJ and producer Jordan Charles is a Jordan Charles a/k/a DJ Don Chido is an open forum DJ, specializing in EDM and Hip Hop.
Don Chido, a talented DJ and producer, was born in Providence, Rhode Island, but it was in the vibrant cities of Miami and Atlanta where his musical journey truly took shape. Raised by his mother, grandma, and aunt in Miami, Don Chido later moved to the north side of Atlanta at the age of 13, which opened up new horizons for his music.
From a young age, Don Chido found his passion for music through radio mixes, particularly the night and weekend mixes on 99 Jamz and Power 96 in Miami. Embracing an open format, his musical style revolves around hip-hop, EDM, and top 40 hits, captivating audiences with his diverse and energetic performances.
At just 8 years old, Don Chido began writing music and rapping. His first recorded song emerged when he was 13, and he experienced his first live performance at 16 as one-half of the Golden Ticket Boyz in a music showcase in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Influenced by iconic acts like Outkast, Three 6 Mafia, and Miami breaks DJs and hip-hop artists, Don Chido continued to hone his craft.
However, like many artists, Don Chido faced his share of challenges in the early stages of his career. Balancing high school commitments and artistic pursuits, he encountered struggles within the music industry, working with different artists whose objectives and goals often clashed, leading to loss of trust and disillusionment with the industry's evolution.
In the early years, Don Chido found success with the Golden Ticket Boyz, known for their popular tracks "Ride" and "Hey Lil Mama." Despite not having received awards or major achievements yet, he gained recognition and secured opportunities to perform in Atlanta's hottest nightclubs and music festivals.
As time passed, Don Chido transitioned from being primarily a rapper to a producer and DJ, focusing on creating and promoting his own work. His signature style involved blending hip-hop with various genres within electronic dance music, uniting two distinct cultures on a single dance floor. Connecting with people through his high-energy performances, Don Chido believed that the right song had the power to bring people together.
However, despite gaining traction in the industry, Don Chido faced challenges when some individuals attempted to blackball him. This left his status as a DJ uncertain in his favorite establishments and deeply impacted his mental health, leading to a period of depression. It took him years to overcome the obstacles and regain his foothold in the music scene.
Nevertheless, Don Chido's determination and talent ultimately prevailed. DJing in environments that had certain dress codes and stipulations to keep specific demographics away, he broke barriers and opened doors to those very people. The allure of his performances became irresistible, and audiences from all backgrounds constantly requested to see Don Chido, effectively breaking down black and white barriers in the process.
Looking to the future, Don Chido has ambitious plans, including securing official tour dates, placements for his records, and achieving success while finding peace within the chaos of the music industry. With his unwavering dedication to his craft and his goal of fostering unity through music, Don Chido continues to leave an indelible mark on the industry and the hearts of his fans.
